About

I currently serve as a Systems & Network Engineer in the Hellenic Army, fulfilling my Mandatory Military Service. As a member of the Research and Informatics Corps, I am responsible for administering and optimizing the network operations and infrastructure within the Brigade. Additionally, I actively contribute to enhancing operational efficiency by developing custom applications, primarily utilizing Excel VBA, to streamline existing tasks and processes.

Prior to my Military Service, I was a Research Associate & Software Engineer at the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH), member of Information Systems Laboratory (Feb. 2021 - Dec. 2023). During this time, my main focus was on Big Data Analytics, Stream Processing, and Fault-tolerance of Stream Processing Systems. Additionally, I worked as a Research Intern at Huawei Technologies Research & Development (UK) Ltd (Sept. 2022 - Dec. 2022), where I was a member of the Database Team contributing to the development of a next-generation, cloud-native data analytics platform.

I hold a MSc in Computer Science from the University of Crete (2023) and my M.Eng Diploma in Electrical & Computer Engineering from Technical University of Crete (2020). My academic focus on Distributed Stream Processing and Big Data Analytics equipped me with expertise in state-of-the-art frameworks such as Apache Flink, Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, and HDFS. Notable achievements include developing a Tick Analysis Platform for real-world stock exchanges during my MSc thesis under the supervision of Kostas Magoutis and creating a state migration mechanism to prevent data loss using checkpointing in my M.Eng. thesis under the supervision of Professor Antonios Deligiannakis.

Outside of my academic and professional pursuits, I am passionate about volunteering and mentoring activities, including involvement as a member of the organizing team at multiple TEDx events and volunteered in non-profit community initiatives.

Among my academic achievements, I was honored by University of Crete with the Huawei Seed for the Future Scholarship (May 2023) and as a Roche Continents Alumni (June 2022). Additionally, I was tied as the top student of my MSc class based on GPA (tied 1st out of 14 MSc graduates) and received the Grand Challenge Audience Award in DEBS'22, highlighting my dedication to academic excellence and research innovation.
